Japan Cup

The Japan cup just ended and as you may already know, Mika Koivuniemi won. He beat another PBA tour star on his way to the title. Mike Wolfe was the only other PBA member in the 8 man finals this year. This year was truly an international affair. Mika is the first player from Finland to win this prestigious title. He has won titles in 11 different countries dating back to his international competitive days with team Finland. Mika won $50,000 for his victory, which is a very nice start to the PBA season. Sort of takes the pressure off - wouldn't you say? Swing gets a little looser when you already have 50 g's in the bank to start the season. The Japan Cup changed its format this year going to a PBA like single elimination match play. This format definitely changed the look of the tournament as many of the PBA tour players that have dominated this event in the past were eliminated in the shorter format.
What do you think of this change in the format?
Do you think the cream will ultimately rise to the top anyway or do you think that it gives some of the less experienced players a better chance to win?
